Dr. Corie Edwards graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in biology, and received a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine with honors in research from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland. In the past, she has worked in private practice offering primary care, nutritional counseling, weight loss, pain management, and vitamin injections. Currently she is adjunct faculty at the National University of Natural Medicine were she teaches genetics through their undergraduate program. Growing up in Eugene, Oregon, Dr. Edwards has a deep appreciation for the Pacific Northwest, its natural beauty, culture, and creative atmosphere.
In her professional life, she takes an interest in functional medicine with a focus on the role genetics plays in health. Outside of work, she loves her role as a mother and wife, as well as spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Jolene Brighten is a Functional Medicine Naturopathic Doctor and the founder of Rubus Health—a root cause women’s medicine clinic where she specializes in the treatment of hormone disorders, including adrenal and thyroid conditions, and autoimmune disease. Jack Wolfson D.O., F.A.C.C., is a board certified cardiologist who uses nutrition and supplements to prevent and treat disease. After ten years performing angiograms, pacemakers, and other cardiac procedures, Dr. Wolfson started Wolfson Integrative Cardiology in 2012 to offer patients the ultimate in holistic heart care.Raised in Chicago, he attended Midwestern University for his D.O. degree and completed a 3 year Internal Medicine residency and 3 year cardiology fellowship. Glen Zielinski is a Chiropractic Physician and Board Certified Functional Neurologist. He graduated Suma Cum Laude from Parker College of Chiropractic in September 2000. He was the Valedictorian of his class, and received numerous awards including the largest student scholarship in the chiropractic profession. He completed his neurology training with the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies, and became board certified as a Chiropractic Neurologist in 2003. He is an Assistant Professor of Neurology with the Carrick Institute. He has lectured for thousands of hours on Functional Neurology to chiropractic, medical, osteopathic, and naturopathic physicians throughout North America and Europe. He has qualified hundreds of doctors throughout the world to sit for board examination in Functional Neurology. He continues to lecture throughout the country on functional medicine management of neurological, neuropsychiatric, and autoimmune disorders.
He founded Northwest Functional Neurology in 2006. Patients travel from throughout the continent to have Dr. Zielinski attend to their care. His practice focuses on severe traumatic brain injuries, post-concussion syndrome, movement disorders, disorders of gait and balance, and disorders of childhood neurological development.
He spearheaded a project that resulted in Functional Neurology being coded into the chiropractic scope of practice in Oregon. He was awarded a fellowship from the American College of Functional Neurology in 2010. He was honored as Neurologist of the Year for 2014 by the International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation, the highest award in the Functional Neurology profession.
He has helped celebrity entertainers and musicians, professional athletes, Olympic Gold Medalists, and World Champions recover from neurological injuries and maximize their performance.
He splits his (alleged) spare time between activities as a musician, martial artist, winemaker, and fending off sneak attacks from his children.
Dr. Guillermo Ruiz NMD graduated from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. Prior to his doctorate, Dr. Ruiz spent his childhood in Mexico, before moving to Florida in 1996. Dr. Ruiz finished a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Sciences and a minor in Health Services Administration at the University of Central Florida.
While pursuing his bachelor’s degree he worked at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. As an Advanced Clinical Tech, he worked under an incredible team of doctors and nurses in the Pediatric Emergency Department and Level One Trauma Center. He witnessed the amazing, state-of- the-art care in emergency medicine but also learned of a larger health care system in disarray. He used this new perspective and a passion for evidence based medicine to change his life. By changing his diet, learning about proper movement and implementing optimal lifestyle habits he was able to improve his personal health and find a calling in Naturopathic Medicine. At that point he decided to further his career with a focus on finding and removing the underlying obstacles to health.
While attending SCNM, Dr. Ruiz became interested in the treatment of endocrine disease with a focus on thyroid health. Under the mentorship of Dr. Alan Christianson, Dr. Ruiz expanded his knowledge on the treatment of Hashimoto’s and Grave’s disease and has completed advanced endocrinology training in order to better address and resolve endocrine disease.
Dr. Ruiz has a deep love for botanical medicine and has presented nationally and internationally on to the topic. He currently holds a position as a research assistant at SCNM and works part time as a researcher at the Arizona State University Biodesign Institute. His research focuses in the prevention, control and treatment of multidrug resistant bacteria and viruses with the use of botanicals and other naturally occurring substances such as amino acids and minerals.
In his spare time, Dr. Ruiz hosts his own podcast “30/30 Health” where he interviews the most influential personalities in the health movement. Dr. Ruiz strives to advance naturopathic practices with an evidence based medicine approach.
